01

Receiving

Check that the registered identity matches the unit expected by the workflow.

02

Returns verification

Support an identity check alongside the product and transaction records.

03

Distribution handoffs

Connect the physical read to the configured ERP and traceability event.

Physical identity meets serialization

An expected number.
An identified item.

A serialization record carries valuable information. Reading a paired physical identifier adds a check on the item presented at the checkpoint.

p-Chip and RxERP have announced work connecting embedded identity with pharmaceutical ERP workflows, GS1 identifiers and EPCIS events. The process is designed around registration, matching and exception handling.

A configured workflow

Read. Match. Record.

Each checkpoint connects the physical item with the record the process expects.

  1. 01

    Associate

Bind the chip identifier to the authorized product and serialization record.

  2. 02

    Check

Read and match at receiving, a distribution handoff or a returns checkpoint.

  3. 03

    Resolve

Record the result and route missing or mismatched identities for review.

Application questions

Know what
to expect.

Does p-Chip replace a GS1 code?

No. A printed code can continue carrying its standard payload. A compatible combined reader adds a physical-identity check alongside it.

Does a read establish DSCSA compliance?

No. A physical-identity check can support a configured traceability workflow. Compliance depends on the complete process, records, controls and applicable requirements.

Can existing scanners read the chip?

A standard code-only scanner reads the printed symbol. Reading the microtransponder requires compatible p-Chip reader hardware.
